Jan Kasl
Architect; Mayor of Prague (1998-2002)

Ing. arch. Jan Kasl

Jan Kasl graduated from the Architecture Faculty of the Technical University in Prague in 1976 and continued his post-graduate studies at the Charles University.

Until 1991 he was an architect in the cooperative Drupos Praha, and in 1992 he became co-owner and Director of A projekt, sro.

From 1998-2002 he was Lord Mayor of the City of Prague, and from 2002-2006 became founder and Chairman of the European Democrats Party; at the same time he was the leader of the opposition in the Prague Municipal Assembly.

At present he is owner and Director of the firm Best Development Prague, sro. He is a Member of the Art and Scientific Council of the Architecture Faculty of the Czech Technical University and a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

He is married to Terezie, nee Bienertová, journalist, granddaughter of the Czech journalist Ferdinand Peroutka, co-founder of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, who died in exile in the US. He has three daughters from his first marriage.
